Belle in NC- Adoption Pending
Belle was 11 weeks old on 8/23/10. She is a black and tan, bob-tail. She came from a litter of 12 B&T pups and her owner/breeder developed health problems before he could place all of the puppies and asked for NESRs help. She and her two sisters are now ready for their forever homes.
Belle is quickly mastering commands at her foster home. Potty training is going well and she is clearly getting the hang of it.
She gets along well with the older dogs, understanding their "back off" warnings but is very mischievous. She'll sneak into the older dogs' crate and pull out the bedding to lie on and steal their toys.
Belle is an exceptionally smart pup. She REALLY pays attention to you and very quickly understood that I was "teaching" her something. She's a sponge! Excellent eye contact. Very soft. She could be a terrific dog if handled well or a holy terror if allowed to learn the wrong things on her own. She would make a very good working dog of some kind. She's really going to need something to do!She will do best in a home where she can work or where the family is a very dog-savvy, active family that hikes, camps and includes the dog and/or does dog activities like obedience classes and agility.
If you would like more information about Belle, please contact Margaret at mcproctor@bellsouth.net and put Belle in the subject line.
Bess in VA
Bess was 11 weeks old on 8/23/10. She is a black and tan, bobtail. She came from a litter of 12 B&T pups and her owner/breeder developed health problems before he could place all of the puppies and asked NESR for help. She and her two sisters are now ready for their forever homes.
Bess is a true english shadow and is very sweet and gentle. She has already learned to sit for her food and is coming out of her shell. Her foster mom says, "It's chaos in my domain, with teenagers, friends and other dogs and she has taken it all in stride. I can't believe how focused she is and looks directly into your eyes when you speak to her. I am very impressed with this baby."
All the pups are getting basic crate and house training.
If you would like more information about Bess, please contact Laree at wetolt@gmailcom and put Bess in the subject line.
Colt in IA
Hi, my name is Colt and I’m an active, energetic 2 yr. old looking for my forever home. I’m currently staying on a farm in IA but am willing to travel for the right home.
I’m just 24” tall and a slim/trim 53 lbs and a gorgeous black & tan coat. My foster mom says I should probably go to farm because I really want to work and have chores to help with. I keep trying to go herd the horses but they won’t let me, I guess because horses don’t like to be herded.
I love to romp and play with other dogs but I can get a little snarky with intact males. It would probably be best if any other dogs were females (I do like the ladies) or other neutered males like me. I know my basic obedience commands, have good recall, am house trained, know the boundaries of the farm and stay there.
By the way, did I mention that I’m VERY loving and like lots of attention? I’m not always perfect, sometimes I still pull when I’m on the leash with a regular collar but I remember not to do that when I have my martingale on.
If you want more information about me contact Michael at sage_moon_naturals@yahoo.com and please put NESR Colt in the subject.
Briar in IL - Adoption Pending
Briar is one of three pups delivered in NESR's care after her mom, Tulip was brought into rescue. Briar is ready for her forever home. She will be 10 weeks old 8/15/2010.
Briar is a bold and active pup and also the largest in the litter. She will complain when things don't go her way and will test the boundaries. She is friendly and confident; not much discourages her.
She will do best in a home with owners who understand how to communicate good leadership and can give her a job to do.
If you think Briar sounds like the right dog for you please contact Amy at brokeep@aeroinc.net
Tulip in IL - Adoption Pending
Tulip is a sweet velcro kind of dog. She came into NESR's care pregnant and delivered three pups June 7. We're estimating her age to be about 3.
Tulip gets along fine with the foster home's dogs and cat. She is appropriately protective of her pups but allows the ES she lives with to babysit and play with them. She bonds easily with people and in fact has jumped the 4 foot fence to follow her foster mom over to the neighbors house. She will also jump the fence to chase away the occasional pesky squirrel but will always return. Her recall is excellent and she seems to have a very biddable nature.
She would probably be happiest in a home where she would have some room to roam safely so she feels less of a need to test the boundaries. She meets and greets strangers well and is calm and gentle with children. She has been exposed to poultry and other farm animals but not enough to gauge whether she would be well suited to stock work.

Jasper in OR - Adoption Pending
Jasper is a one year old English Shepherd. He is enjoying his foster home. He is very responsive to basic training commands, sit, stay and come (come is alittle tough but he's getting it). He goes to kennel outside now on command. He sits to eat his meals with out saying a work and waits to be released. He is even coming into the house and sitting so his foster mom can wipe his feet!
He is going to new places with his foster mom so he can get some exposure to being around lots of people and different sounds, locations, etc. He loves playing with the other dogs and taking long walks.
For more information about Jasper, contact Judy at nesrinfo@yahoo.com. Please put Jasper in the subject line.
Autumn in MO
Autumn is a beautiful, loving and smart 2-yr-old, UKC registered, tri-colored female with one blue and one brown eye.
She is approximately 22 inches tall at the shoulder, weighs 70 lbs and is utd on all her shots.
Autumn is very shy around new people and prefers to keep her distance at first, but once she knows you’re her people she becomes a loving, loyal companion.
Autumn gets along with the resident dogs and cat but is not yet reliable around poultry. A bit hardheaded, Autumn is going to need a firm, consistent, patient handler to help her realize her full potential.
For more information about Autumn, contact sage_moon_naturals@yahoo.com . Please put NESR in the subject line.
Dante in IL
Dante is an approximately 2 yr old Operation New Beginnings dog who spent his first 7 months in a quiet foster home that didn't ask much of him other than to learn that there was such a thing as a safe place and kind people in the world.
As time progressed he moved to a second foster home that could challenge him a little more and help him to move beyond some of his fears. Within a month of being in his new foster home Dante has progressed a lot!
He now accepts handling and grooming and although he is still skittish, is getting better about being touched (and actually learning that it can feel good!) He walks on a leash well and understands that the leash is a precursor to good stuff like a walk through the pasture and woods or a visit into the house. He gets along well with the foster home's other dogs and pays the cats and free range poultry no mind. He is curious and not so shy that he avoids new things - he just prefers to hang back and observe a bit before being pushed into something new. He will take a treat very nicely from the hand of anyone in the foster family, including young children.
Dante is a dog that wants to connect. Although he is shy of being touched, he maintains eye contact with humans and remains near them. He needs a home that can show patience as he continues to progress past his fears but who will also challenge him and not make too many excuses for him. He is a dog that takes his cues from a confident leader. His foster home has taken to letting him "help" get the ducks in every night. When the last duck goes in and he is praised he brightens visibly so he may benefit from having some type of job to do to build his confidence. He has had no accidents in the house. He spends his overnights and part of the the day in a large kennel pen attached to a roomy barn stall but he prefers to wait for his walks to do his business so housebreaking shouldn't be an issue.

Curly in MT
Curly is an ONB dog that has learned a lot in his foster home. He is a neutered male, about 3 and half years old and weighs about 38 to 40 lbs.
He is a very sweet dog, does not show any aggression towards other animals or food. He is very fearful of strange people and new experiences, he loves to run and go for walks and to find a quiet place to rest.
He is a very easy dog to take care of if you have patience and love and understand how to approach him. He is not food oriented, so know that he will not be interested in you just because you have food in your hands. He is house broken.
Curly has recently learned to play with other dogs. He really has a very soft mouth when he is playing with the other dog at his foster home. He loves to run in an enclosed place with no people and no strange dogs around, he is ok with dogs he knows and trusts.
He likes massages and to be brushed. Curly will need a calm, patient person to show him that the world is not such a scary place.
For more information on Curly, please contact Catherine at: rambo1@bresnan.netand put Curly in the subject line.
Pru in MT - Adoption Pending
Pru is a lovely tri-color female from Operation New Beginnings (ONB) in Montana. She walks well on leash, weighs 25 or 30 pounds, and is up-to-date on all of her shots.
Pru is a beautiful dog with a straighter shorter coat, long feathers, and a beautiful tail. She is shy (leery of strangers) but very devoted to her caretaker. She will take treats. She gets along with all of her foster's other dogs, from a 10 lb. minpin to a 100 lb. wolfcross. She is good with the foster's two cats, and is very playful with other dogs, male or female. She will not challenge other dogs for food, but will definitely eat anything left behind (free feeding would not be a good idea for Pru). She will drink the same water the other dogs do, but may need to have a bowl in a "safe spot" when she moves to a new place.
Pru has been handled by men as well as women. Her foster feels she will bond closest with whoever walks and feeds her. Pru is at a good weight and healthy. She is likely about 4 or 5 years old. She is easy to groom, including both brushing and nail trimming, and is easy-going about being picked up. She is a little whiny in the car, but jumps in willingly.
Pru is looking for a home that will give her a little time to adjust after she is first adopted. She will repay that investment with interest once she settles in.
For more informtation about Pru please contact Irith (Ereet) at: musicitb@gmail.com and put Pru in the subject line.
Charlie in MN
Charlie is an Operation New Beginnings dog who was born shortly before the seizure. We believe that he and Cole are littermates.
Like Cole, Charlie is not suitable for a first-time handler. He will require a firm, but not heavy, hand and respect for his independence and initiative.
Charlie is an exceptionally bright dog. While his lack of early socialization means that he is surprised and startled by some things that other dogs take for granted, Charlie recovers from stress much more quickly than most dogs. He is agile and enjoys obstacles and he LOVES to fetch. Once Charlie has healed from surgery, he could be an excellent obedience or agility prospect. He would also enjoy tracking.
Unfortunately Charlie also had two badly luxated patellas. One was surgically repaired on January 18, 2010 and he is currently being rehabilitated in foster care. The other knee will be repaired in the spring of 2010.
Charlie went into an experienced foster home because of dog and human aggression that started when he very young. His dog aggression resolved almost immediately in his foster home, though he would not be a good housemate for a very small, fearful dog. Charlie is gentle, affectionate and easy for his foster family to handle, but is still aloof with strangers. His new owner will need to give him time to bond; and maintain him a calm and controlled atmosphere when he meets strangers until he acclimates to his new home. He will be an excellent partner for an experienced handler – this dog needs a job and he could excel at many things.
Charlie has not met cats but he is good with poultry. If he is still with us when his knee heals, we plan to start him on sheep. He appears to have eye.
Like Cole, Charlie is very small, around 25 pounds. He has a silky, low-maintenance coat.
For detailed information on Charlie, please visit his webpage at: http://smartdogs.wordpress.com/charlie/
If you are interested in adopting Charlie, please contact Janeen at: smartk9s@msn.com
Please put NESR Charlie in the subject line.
Sparky in OK
Sparky is an Operations New Beginning dog who came into foster care terrified of being approached or touched, crouched in the corner of the living room he claimed as “his” much of the time. With time and patience in his foster home, Sparky has become a truly different dog. Sparky’s foster mom says he is ready to bond with a person, that you can see it in his eyes that he is ready to do so. He is a very cute fellow, dainty in his habits. He is housebroken and comes when called. Like most ONB dogs, he is small for an English Shepherd.
He gets along well with the dogs in his foster home and his foster mom believes he would be good in a home with another dog or as an only dog as long as he was given plenty of attention. He gets along well with the resident cat in his foster home. If he is to be on a farm, he needs training with small livestock as he saw the backyard chickens at his foster home as prey, killing some of them. He is easily called off, though, if one is standing right with him and remains vigilant. He shows the ES desire to do what he is asked to do.
Sparky needs a person who will bond to him, work with him daily, and be patient as he learns to trust them. Sparky’s foster family sees great potential in him. He uses his nose more than any of the other dogs in his foster home, and would probably excel at work involving scenting. He needs time and love to bring out his potential, but working with him is very rewarding.
For more information on Sparky, please contact Kyt at: kyteubanks@gmail.com
Please put NESR Sparky in the subject line.
Kip in NM
Kip is a young (approximately 13 month old), petite black and white female.
She accepts being groomed, including nails, without issue. Good with other dogs that have good dog-dog skills, she can be snarky with dogs that don’t respect her personal space. She is social with people she knows, and is improving with her response to strangers. While not fearful, she is cautious in new situations and takes her cue from other dogs and people in how to respond. She is energetic and has to be reminded the house is not for playing, but will settle down inside quickly. Kip is very athletic and despite her small size can easily keep up with the bigger dogs.
While Kip loves to snuggle, she does require a fair amount of exercise and mental stimulation. She has been started on basic obedience and loves to work.
Her house manners are good (once she is reminded not to zoom through the house) but she needs supervision to ensure she doesn’t get into trouble. She is crated when no supervision is available.
Kip can be pushy and would do best in a household where rules and boundaries are established and maintained.
For more information about Kip, please contact Kyt at: kyteubanks@gmail.com. Please put ‘NESR Kip ’ as your subject heading.
